Mitsubishi’s new plans for three SUVs

Mitsubishi’s future looks bright. The Japanese automaker recently announced new plans for three new SUVs that are expected to be unveiled later this month at the Tokyo Motor Show. To see current available Mitsubishi vehicles, visit your Mitsubishi dealer in Phoenix.

The Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV (middle grey vehicle above) is a full-size SUV that features permanent all-wheel drive and is a plug-in hybrid, according to Torque News. The V6 3.0L supercharged MIVEC engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The next vehicle to be unveiled is a compact SUV called the Concept XR-PHEV (cherry-red vehicle on the right, above). It has a smaller 1.1L direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine, which is lightweight and compact. It may not see much off-road usage, but should be a fun car to zip around town in.

The third is the Mitsubishi Concept AR ( lime-green colored vehicle on the left, above), which is a multi-purpose vehicle. The concept uses a lightweight mild hybrid system with the same 1.1L MIVEC engine as the XR-PHEV, and combines the off-road capability of an SUV with the interior space of a larger vehicle.

All three vehicles include the latest “e-Assist” active safety technologies and advanced connected car tech with information and entertainment features.

The Tokyo Motor Show starts Nov. 22. These concepts will surely undergo some transformation before being rolled out as consumer models within the next few years. The addition of hybrid vehicles to the Mitsubishi lineup is a refreshing change and one the car-maker hopes revives interest in the brand.
